Victor Boniface could depart the 2024 Bundesliga winners this summer.

Bayer Leverkusen and Nigeria striker Victor Boniface could be sold this summer after two seasons in the Bundesliga

The forward joined the German top-flight club in the summer of 2023 from Union Saint-Gilloise and had an immediate impact under now departed boss Xabi Alonso

Boniface, 24, was instrumental in Leverkusen's undefeated Bundesliga 2023-24 season, scoring 14 league goals in 23 games in the club's league success.

The forward made fewer appearances in the just-concluded season, featuring in 19 league games and scoring eight times, an undeniable drop-off from year one in North Rhine-Westphalia.

How Boniface could leave Leverkusen

According to Fabrizio Romano, the Nigerian’s future at Leverkusen remains uncertain, and the 24-year-old could depart this summer.

Boniface’s future was up in the air in January, as Al Nassr closed in on the one-time Bundesliga champion, only for the move to collapse in the final stages, with the Saudi club instead signing Jhon Duran from Aston Villa

Nevertheless, Romano reports that a switch could be in the offing in the summer window if the buying club makes a satisfying proposal to Die Werkself.

Boniface has scored 32 goals in 61 appearances for Leverkusen after two seasons.

What’s next for Leverkusen?

The German side have already appointed Erik ten Hag as head coach to replace Alonso, who departed for Real Madrid at the end of the campaign, and should look forward to resuming pre-season in preparation for a possible title tussle with Bayern Munich.
