As a high-profile trial looms for Thomas Partey, a London court has suddenly hit the pause button.
Justice has delayed proceedings on serious charges until mid-September, providing the Ghanaian midfielder a temporary reprieve amid swirling controversy.
What’s the gossip?
The 32-year-old Villarreal midfielder was scheduled to appear at the Old Bailey this Tuesday, September 2.
Instead, the court adjourned the case to September 15, 2025.
Daily Mail reports the reason for the postponement remains undisclosed.
This delay allows Partey to continue preparations with Ghana’s Black Stars ahead of crucial World Cup qualifiers against Chad and Mali.
What happened to Partey?
Partey currently faces disturbing allegations: five counts of rape involving two women, plus one count of sexual assault involving a third woman, all purportedly occurring between 2021 and 2022 during his time at Arsenal.
The 32-year-old Black Stars midfielder appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court in early August dressed in black, and was granted conditional bail under strict terms.
One of such states that he may not contact the alleged victims and must advise the police of any address changes or international travel.
Partey has denied all charges, and his lawyer insists he is cooperating fully with authorities and is eager to clear his name.
Villarreal move and public outrage
In a move that shocked many, La Liga club Villarreal signed Partey shortly after he received bail.
The Spanish club received backlash from fans as more than 1,000 fans signed a petition calling the transfer “disgraceful”.
Despite this, the club has stood firm, issuing a statement underlining its commitment to diversity and condemnation of all forms of violence.
Partey, joined Arsenal in a £45 million deal from Atlético Madrid in 2020 and went on to make 167 appearances, winning a Community Shield in 2023.
