Super agent provides important update on Lamine Yamal's Barcelona future

Super agent Jorge Mendes has provided an update on Lamine Yamal's future after meeting with members of Barcelona’s board in Lisbon earlier today.

The 17-year-old is one of the highly rated footballers in world football, but he has yet to pen a long-term contract, as he is below the age of 18. 

Given his immense quality, Yamal has been courted by PSG, who, according to the Blaugrana president, tabled an “important bid” for him, which they rejected. 

His current deal runs out in 2027, and while he has expressed his desire to commit his future to the club, the short length of his contract could leave Barcelona vulnerable to ambitious offers. However, the player's agent recently put paid to that notion. 

The Blaugrana played against Benfica in Lisbon yesterday, and ahead of the match, members of the Barcelona board took advantage of their presence in Portugal to meet with the Portuguese super agent, Mendes, that represents some of their players, including Yamal and Ansu Fati.

After the meeting, Mendes was accosted by reporters who asked him about Yamal's future, and he replied unequivocally that the youngster would definitely pen a renewal. 

“Lamine Yamal will sign new deal at Barça, for sure. That’s guaranteed,” Jorge Mendes said. “We only spoke about Lamine today, he’s staying with a new deal.”
