A new king — Reactions as Bayer Leverkusen ask Haaland to give way for Boniface

Super Eagles striker Victor Boniface has been christened as the new king in the Bundesliga after his club Bayer Leverkusen celebrated his latest award. 

Bayer Leverkusen took to social media to congratulate Boniface after he was named as the Bundesliga Player of the Month for August.

Die Werkself posted a classic message asking former Borussia Dortmund foreward Erling Haaland to give way for Nigeria’s Boniface. 

Leverkusen’s post came after their 22-year-old sensation equaled a record set by the Norwegian striker two years ago. 

As reported by Pulse Sports Nigeria, Boniface was named as the first Player of the Month for the 2023/2024 season on Thursday afternoon.

The latest Super Eagles saw off stiff competition from the likes of Harry Kane and his Bayern Munich teammate, Alphonso Davies, Benjamin Henrichs of RB Leipzig and Kevin Behrens to take how the award for August.

Boniface’s win saw him add the Player of the Month award to the Rookie award he picked up just before the international break. 

With both awards, he became the first player since Erling Haaland to win both awards. Boniface is also the first player since Haaland to contribute six goals in his first three matches in the Bundesliga.

Consequently, Leverkusen took to their X.com account to react, with Die Werkself asking the now departed Haaland to give way. 

“Move out the way, Mr. Haaland. Victor's coming!” the club posted.

Following the win and Bayer’s post, football fans have taken to the comment section to react with some of them calling Boniface the new king.
