Nigeria vs Sao Tome and Principe: Victor Boniface shines on Super Eagles debut
Bayer Leverkusen striker Victor Boniface has shown why he is highly rated at the German club.
Boniface came off the bench to make his international debut for Nigeria after a comprehensive 6-0 thrashing of Sao Tome and Principe.
The Super Eagles proved no match again for the Falcons and True Parrots to end the AFCONQ2023 on a high.
Boniface shines on debut
While his namesake Victor Osimhen stole the show again for the Nigeria Super Eagles, with an excellent hat-trick, the 22-year-old also impressed.
The Bayer forward came on for Taiwo Awoniyi, who also scored an absolute stunner to put the Eagles 3-0 ahead in the second half.
Boniface went on to play for 26 minutes, picking up an assist for the last goal scored by fellow second half substitute Samuel Chukwueze.
During his time on the pitch, the former Royale Union Saint-Gilloise had one assist, one key pass, created one big chance, completed 89 per cent of his passes and 100 per cent of his attempted long balls.
Bayer star continues form
His performance against Sao Tome and Principe means the talented striker has now added to his season’s tally.
Before the game against the Falcons, the composed forward had scored five goals and assisted two more in four matches across competitions for his new club, Leverkusen.
His form saw the Bundesliga name him Rookie of the Month for August, with the Bayer man also in the running for the Player of the Month.
Boniface has now scored five goals and assisted three in just five outings for club and country this season.
