Gabon's Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is hoping to revive his career in France at Marseille after a torrid time in the Premier League with Chelsea and Arsenal.
Aubameyang was in top form again as Olympique Marseille registered another positive result in the two-week-old Ligue 1.
The Gabon superstar was on from start to finish as Marseille avoided defeat at Metz following a 2-2 draw on Friday night.
Metz vs Marseille: Brief
After the 2-1 victory at home against Reims on the opening day of the season the previous weekend, Marseille were hoping to consolidate on the road.
They travelled to Longeville-les-Metz to take on newly promoted Metz, who were thrashed 5-1 by Rennes on their first game back in the top division.
It did not take long for the visitors to make their intentions known when a miscued from former Premier League star at Arsenal and Chelsea, Aubameyang, fell kindly for 18-year-old Emran Soglo who made no mistakes to fire from close range to put Marseille ahead at the break on his debut.
However, Metz responded superbly after the break with two goals in the space of six second-half minutes to completely turn things around in their favour thanks to goals from Cheikh Sabaly and Georges Milkautadze.
Marseille will respond eight minutes from time as Vitor Oliveira’s late goal ensured the visitors left with at least a share of the spoils.
Aubameyang’s new life
The assist for Soglo’s opener saw the 34-year-old add to his goal contributions this season for Marseille.
Aubameyang has now contributed three goals, two goals and one assist, in his last two matches across all competitions for his new Ligue 1 side.
The former African footballer of the year seems to be enjoying life and football again after he difficult time in London. He created four chances, three key passes and attempted two shots against Metz.
He struggled to get game time at Chelsea last season making just 21 appearances across all competitions with just three goals scored for the Blues.
Aubameyang joined Marseille on a free transfer after his contract at Chelsea expired.
