Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has pointed the finger at himself for the Red Devils mishap at Galatasaray.

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has taken responsibility for fumbling a 3-1 lead in the draw against Galatasaray.

The Red Devils suffered a hit in their Champions League knockout stage qualifying bid when they were held to a 3-3 draw by Galatasaray at Rams Park despite opening a two-goal lead twice in the game.

Alejandro Garnacho gave the visitors the lead in the 11th minute, and Bruno Fernandes doubled the advantage seven minutes later but before half-time, Hakim Ziyech pulled one back for the hosts.

Scott McTominay restored the two-goal advantage in the 55th minute, but a goal from Ziyech in the 62nd minute and another from Kerem Akturkoglu in the 71st meant the spoils were shared.

What Ten Hag said

“I am responsible for this," the Manchester United boss said, per the BBC.

"We know we are on a project. We are making improvements, so that's very hopeful. We are going in the right direction so I know we will be successful in the long term, but if you want to stay in the Champions League, you need to win these games.

"We were winning and then we're losing it. We should have taken three points; that's clear. We did this in other games. I was pleased with how we played but at the same time, I had to criticise the team because the defending is not good enough.

"We are leading 3-1 and we cannot afford mistakes as it makes a difference."

Meanwhile, Manchester United fans have credited the end of Rashford's goal drought to his reunion with his former partner.
