Legendary Super Eagles goalkeeper weighs in on Stanley Nwabali's future amid Northern interest
Stanley Nwabali has been on the verge of leaving Chippa United for a career step up since he shone at the 2023 AFCON, but no move materialised. However, it seems he is about to finally get a move to Raja Casablanca in Morocco, and Super Eagles legend Ike Shorunmu commented on the potential move.
Nwabali to leave Chippa finally?
The Nigerian goalie, previously veiled in obscurity, announced himself on the continental stage when he helped the Super Eagles reach the AFCON final in 2023, keeping three clean sheets.
He was linked with moves to the Saudi Pro League, the English Championship, and even bigger clubs in South Africa. An exit seemed certain when the Chilli Boys’ president, Siviwe Mpengesi, expressed that they were resigned to losing him and would not stand in his way.
It has been almost two years, but he will now likely move after Unplayable revealed that Moroccan side Raja Casablanca were interested in acquiring his services.
What Shorunmu said
In an interview with Footy Africa, Shorunmu, who had 34 appearances between the sticks for Nigeria, gave his opinion.
“Ultimately, it is up to Stanley to decide what he wants from his life and his football career. He is a fantastic goalkeeper with the quality to succeed anywhere,” Shorunmu said.
“It’s a new environment, different from what he’s used to in South Africa,” he said. “The club clearly believes in him, and it is now up to Stanley to prove himself again.”
