Stanley Nwabali has suffered criticism following his recent performances for Chippa United.

Super Eagles goalkeeper has remained stuck at Chipa United since his heroics for Nigeria at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

Nwabali was primed for a big money move to many top clubs including Kaizer Chiefs but this has yet to materialise despite his stellar performance for club and country.

The 28-year-old kept four clean sheets in seven games at AFCON 2023, including two penalty saves against South Africa in the semifinal.

Nwabali is not good enough - Junior Khanye

Former South Africa international Junior Khanye has however slammed Stanley Nwabali for not being good enough for Kaizer Chiefs.

Junior Khanye while on iDiski TV added that the Super Eagles' backline shields Nwabali a lot, but when he plays for his club side Chippa United he gets exposed.

He said: “I think the fact that he is a Nigerian international as first-choice goalkeeper can be blinding because Nigeria have a superior team that covers him sometimes.

“But this guy, when I watch and observe him, he gives away a lot of goals, especially high balls. I mean, sometimes he’ll get a ball and then spill it; he does high school mistakes.

Khanye also added that Nwabali is not good enough for South Africa’s most successful club Kaizer Chief because he lacks the basics of being a good goalkeeper.

“They need to go and look for a proper keeper. I am not sure if the PSL has a top keeper available…I love (Ricardo) Gross, maybe he can go to Chiefs.

“I have been watching Nwabali and I don’t think he is a good fit for Chiefs. I think someone is selling this guy, he can’t handle the ball, instead, he fits the ball away. He lacks the basics.”

28-year-old Nwabali has kept 9 clean sheets but has conceded 25 goals in 26 appearances across all competitions this season.

Nwabali will next be in action on Wednesday, May 14th when Chippa United host league leaders Mamelodi Sundowns in the PSL.
