Fulham stars Alex Iwobi, Calvin Bassey, and Samuel Chukwueze were called up to join the Nigerian national team for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations.
The trio were officially named in Nigeria's squad on Thursday by head coach Eric Chelle, and their departure means they could be absent for approximately one month, depending on how far the Super Eagles advance in the tournament.
The competition is scheduled to take place from Sunday, December 21, 2025, to Sunday, January 18, 2026. The absence of the three players, who have been instrumental for Fulham this season, presents a significant challenge for the club.
Silva acknowledged the impact their absence will have on his squad, highlighting their importance in recent performances.
"We are talking about three starting XI players," Silva stated.
"We know Alex is a key player in any position he plays, the importance of Calvin, and what Chukwueze has been doing in recent games.
"You have to find solutions. If you know any other way to handle it [AFCON], let me know."
Nigeria are one of the favourites for the tournament in Morocco, and will be extra determined to win, after failing at the final hurdle at the last edition, coupled with the failure to qualify for the 2026 World Cup.
