Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes said there is no rest in sight for him despite having played 52 games this season.

Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes made a powerful statement that resonated with fans after he led the Red Devils to a dominant 3-0 victory over Athletic Club in the semi-final of the Europa League.

Fernandes scored twice in the first half after Casemiro’s opener to help the Red Devils take a large advantage into the second leg at Old Trafford next week.

The match in brief

The match began at Estadio San Mamés, with Alejandro Garnacho's early goal ruled out for offside. Manchester United took control, with Casemiro heading home from Harry Maguire's cross.

Athletic's fortunes worsened when Dani Vivian was sent off, conceding a penalty that Bruno Fernandes coolly converted. Fernandes scored again three minutes later, deepening the hosts' despair.

Manchester United dominated the match, with Noussair Mazraoui hitting the crossbar and Casemiro having a shot tipped over.

What Fernandes said

The game against Athletic Club was Bruno's 52 for Manchester United this season. After the match, he said he had been advised by the club's doctors and coaching crew to rest for some games, but he refused.

“The manager and physio say that I need to relax and rest, but I say no,” Bruno said, per Fabrizio. “When I die, I will have a lot of time to lay down and rest.”
