Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba revealed that he contemplated retiring during the alleged extortion saga with his brother.

In a recent interview, Paul Pogba opened up about how his public row with his brother affected him, saying he considered retiring from football.

In September last year, Pogba's elder brother Mathias was arrested, charged, and detained for around three months as he was implicated in an alleged extortion case.

The brother in question went on to release videos making bizarre accusations against Paul, including claiming the Juventus midfielder dabbled in voodoo.

The series of incidents led to a fallout between the parties, which Pogba said affected his mental health.

Looking back now, in a recent interview with Al-Jazeera, the former Manchester United star revealed that he came close to retiring.

What Pogba said

The World Cup winner blames money for the incident, saying that it has a way of tearing families apart and even causing wars.

He claimed that he even contemplated quitting football, as he no longer wanted the money or fame that came with it and wanted to live a ‘normal life’.

“Money changes people. It can break up a family. It can create a war,” Pogba said.

“Sometimes I was just by myself thinking, ‘I don’t want to have money anymore. I just don’t want to play anymore. I just want to be with normal people, so they will love me for me—not for the fame, not for the money.’ Sometimes it’s tough.”
