Despite the ongoing speculation surrounding potential signings, Slot is content to assess the squad currently at his disposal.

With several key players away on international duty, the former Feyenoord boss is using the pre-season period to evaluate the younger members of the squad. While acknowledging the possibility of new arrivals, he insists the club is in no rush to make hasty decisions.

“The positive about that is that it’s an ideal way to see the younger players and give them playing time,” said the Reds boss at a press conference. “The standards are really high when it comes to bringing in new players because we have such a good squad.

Of course, Richard Hughes and I are trying to improve the squad where possible but that’s not that easy.”

“One of the reasons is me wanting to assess which is difficult because most of them aren’t here.

“And I’ve inherited a team which is really good so it’s not so easy to find players of the same standard or even higher, especially as those ones need to be available. Richard, more than me, is working really hard on that and keeps me updated. If there’s any news on that we will come to you.

“We already have a good team I am happy with but it would be a surprise for all of us if we don’t bring any players in. That will probably happen in the end but for now we are waiting for our players to come back and waiting for the right ones to sign.”
