Former United midfielder Darren Fletcher has been appointed as interim head coach and will lead the team for their upcoming match against Burnley on Wednesday.

The club has indicated that a permanent replacement is not expected to be named until the summer.

The dismissal follows a period of disappointing results that have left the team in sixth place in the Premier League table. In an official statement, the club explained the reasoning behind the change.

What Man Utd said

"Ruben Amorim has departed his role as Head Coach of Manchester United," the statement read. "Ruben was appointed in November 2024 and led the team to a UEFA Europa League Final in Bilbao in May."

"With Manchester United sitting sixth in the Premier League, the club’s leadership has reluctantly made the decision that it is the right time to make a change. This will give the team the best opportunity of the highest possible Premier League finish."
