Ademola Lookman snubs Inter's €5m salary, chooses chooses pay cut with Inter Milan
Nigerian international and Atalanta forward, Ademola Lookman, has turned down a lucrative contract offer from Serie A giants Napoli, as he remains focused on sealing a move to Inter Milan, multiple Italian outlets have reported.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport and Corriere dello Sport, Napoli had revived their long-standing interest in the Super Eagles winger and went all out with a bold move to lure him to Naples, offering a reported €5 million per year contract, a deal that comfortably surpasses Inter’s €4.5 million per year proposal.
However, despite Napoli's tempting financial package, Lookman is said to have rejected the offer, making it clear that his heart is set on joining Inter, a club with which he has reportedly already reached a verbal agreement.
The proposed deal with the Nerazzurri is said to run until 2030, with the potential to rise to €5 million annually during his stay at the San Siro.
Lookman, 26, was one of Atalanta’s standout performers last season, with impressive displays that saw him become a fan favourite in Bergamo. He also caught global attention after his Europa League final heroics, where he scored a historic hat-trick to lead Atalanta past Bayer Leverkusen.
The African Player of the Year, who previously played for RB Leipzig and Leicester City, appears keen on taking the next step in his career with a more competitive side, and ticks all the boxes.
Meanwhile, Napoli, under manager Antonio Conte, is not backing down. The club has already secured Noa Lang and Lorenzo Lucca, and they remain in the market for one more attacking option this window.
However, Lookman will not be part of their plans, having set his sights firmly on the blue and black side of Milan.
Inter Milan, on their part, are still locked in talks with Atalanta over the €50 million asking price, with negotiations expected to hinge on bonuses and performance-based add-ons.
