For the first time ever, EA will host an official FIFA 23 tournament in Africa. Here's all you need to know about it.

Lagos host the first official EA Sports FIFA 23 Africa championship next month.

The EA Sports FIFA franchise is widely regarded as the most iconic soccer video gaming franchise in the last two decades.

Although EA Sports and FIFA have since ended their partnership, the first-ever licensed tournament in Africa, with Lagos, Nigeria set to be the host.

The offline invitational gaming event will feature gamers from Nigeria and other neighbouring West African countries competing in the FIFA 23 tournament.

The winner will be crowned as EA Sports FIFA23’s African Champion and will also be awarded a grand prize.

“We have seen the massive growth of gaming in Africa and the FIFA23 title in particular and have thus made this strategic decision to bring such an incredible gaming experience to Nigeria,” Abimbola Ilo, Managing Director of Integral, the organisers of the championship said in a statement.

“Naturally, we are thrilled to be the first-ever official licensee of EA Sports in Africa and are poised to host a phenomenal event that creates an exciting experience for gamers and football fans.”

32 players from across the country will participate in the high-level competition that will take place on May 13 to determine the Champion of Africa.

There will be a knock-out tournament before the main event of 32 players.
