We need to be offensively - Algeria coach sends message to Lookman and Osimhen
Nigeria’s Super Eagles prepare to take on Algeria’s Desert Foxes in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations quarter-final clash scheduled for Saturday.
The Super Eagles have been particularly eye-catching in attack, scoring 12 goals and conceding just four, making them the most prolific side in the tournament.
Victor Osimhen, Ademola Lookman, Akor Adams and Alex Iwobi have all played important roles in Nigeria’s run.
What Petkovic said
Despite Nigeria’s attacking strength, Algeria's head coach, Vladimir Petković, remains confident that his team can rise to the occasion.
Speaking to journalists in Marrakech, the Desert Foxes’ coach stressed the importance of mentality, discipline and attention to detail.
“The most important thing is the state of mind. It all starts from there, and from that point of view, we are irreproachable. We have the reliability and the quality,” Petković said.
He added that Algeria must strike the right balance between defence and attack to overcome the Super Eagles.
He added, “Tomorrow, we need to be just as good defensively as offensively. That will be paramount. All the details will matter against Nigeria. Nothing should be left to chance. We have the quality. We believe in ourselves, and we have to play a big game.”
