Joshua Samuel Fatu's journey to WWE stardom began long before he stepped into a WWE ring.

Born into the legendary Anoaʻi wrestling family in San Francisco, wrestling was seemingly in his blood.

However, his initial path focused on American football, where he played linebacker at Escambia High School and later at the University of West Alabama from 2003 to 2005.

When his football prospects seemed limited, he and his twin brother Jonathan made the pivotal decision to embrace the family legacy, following in the footsteps of their father Rikishi and uncle Umaga.

Trained by Rikishi himself and honing their craft at the Wild Samoan Training Centre, the brothers made their professional debut in 2007, competing on the independent circuit as The Fatu Twins and The Samoan Soldiers.

Their talent soon caught the eye of WWE, and in 2010, they joined the company's developmental territory, Florida Championship Wrestling (FCW).

Wrestling initially as Jules Uso, Jey quickly teamed up with his brother, now Jimmy Uso, forming The Uso Brothers.

They captured the FCW Florida Tag Team Championship, offering a glimpse of the dominance to come. Later that year, they debuted on WWE's main roster (Raw), initially managed by Tamina Snuka.

For the next decade, The Usos became synonymous with tag team excellence in WWE. They amassed multiple Raw and SmackDown Tag Team Championships, including setting the record for the longest reign.

Their high-energy style, incredible synchronicity and undeniable charisma earned them multiple Slammy Awards for Tag Team of the Year and cemented their legacy through classic rivalries against teams like The Shield, The Wyatt Family and The New Day.

Around 2020, Jey Uso became unwillingly embroiled in the deeply personal and dominant reign of his cousin, Roman Reigns, the self-proclaimed "Tribal Chief".

Jey's initial defiance against Reigns led to a critically acclaimed feud, showcasing his potential as a singles competitor and earning CBS Sports' Feud of the Year award.

Eventually, under immense pressure, Jey acknowledged Reigns, joining The Bloodline faction alongside Jimmy. The group later expanded to include their younger brother, Solo Sikoa.

This era saw The Usos reach new heights, unifying the major tag team titles. However, the faction was rife with internal conflict, particularly surrounding the involvement of Sami Zayn.

Jey's conscience and loyalty were constantly tested, culminating in his dramatic departure from The Bloodline in June 2023.

This multi-year saga, lauded by ESPN and others as Storyline of the Year, forged Jey's character, revealing dramatic depth and building immense fan support for his eventual solo journey.

Seeking his own path, Jey moved from SmackDown to Raw. This marked the birth of "Main Event Jey Uso". He adopted the catchphrase "Yeet," which exploded in popularity.

While he had won the André the Giant Memorial Battle Royal in 2021, his singles accomplishments truly began to stack up post-Bloodline.

He briefly teamed with Cody Rhodes to capture the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championship. In 2024, he defeated Bron Breakker to win his first major singles title, the WWE Intercontinental Championship.

His momentum continued as he won the 2025 Men's Royal Rumble match, earning a main event title shot.

He fulfilled that destiny, becoming the World Heavyweight Champion at WrestleMania 41 (Night 1), defeating Gunther, solidifying his transition from tag team specialist to bona fide main event superstar.

The rivalry between Jey Uso and Gunther intensified after Jey won the 2025 Royal Rumble, earning a shot at Gunther's World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania 41.

Gunther, known for his dominant reign, had previously defeated Jey in all three of their encounters.

The feud became personal when The Ring General viciously attacked Jey's brother, Jimmy Uso, on Raw, promising to make Jey's life a "living hell."

Despite the odds and Gunther's prior dominance, Jey Uso stepped up at WrestleMania 41.
