Nigeria to lead African countries to World Table Tennis Championships in Korea

The ITTF reports that in the men's categories, Nigeria, Egypt, Algeria, Tunisia, and Madagascar will represent Africa, and in the women's categories, Nigeria, Egypt, Algeria, Tunisia, and Mauritius will represent the continent.

The International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) has confirmed Nigeria and 39 others for the 2024 World Team Championships taking place in Busan, South Korea.

Aruna is expected to begin his campaign in the main draw, where he will face top seeds such as Japan's Tomokazu Harimoto, Brazil's Hugo Calderano, Chinese Taipei's Lin Yun-Ju, and Germany's title candidates Dimitrij Ovtcharov and Dang Qiu.

The ITTF reports that in the men's categories, Nigeria, Egypt, Algeria, Tunisia, and Madagascar will represent Africa, and in the women's categories, Nigeria, Egypt, Algeria, Tunisia, and Mauritius will represent the continent.

The tournament marks Korea's first-ever hosting of the ITTF World Table Tennis Championships Finals, a long-awaited milestone that promises a unique experience for fans and a chance to celebrate Korea's place in table tennis history.

The unveiling of the participating teams coincides with the 100-day countdown to the ITTF World Team Table Tennis Championships Finals in Busan 2024.

This elite sport will have even more significance as the 2024 ITTF World Championships will act as a qualifying event for Paris 2024.

Nigeria will have another shot at qualifying for the team event of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games at the 2024 World Team Championships.

The Quadri Aruna-captained side lost the continental sole ticket to Egypt at the 2023 African Championships in Tunis, and they will be aiming to pick up the ticket to Paris when the 2024 World Championships take place at the Busan Exhibition and Convention Centre (BEXCO) from February 16 to 25, 2024.
