Ranked at No.134 in the ITTF Table Tennis World Rankings, Desai knew the odds were heavily stacked against him heading into Friday’s contest, but he played with an air of freedom, embracing the occasion with fearlessness to get the Lagos crowd on its feet.

"It was quite a good match today against Jang Woojin. I know he's a very tough opponent. It's the second time I've played against him, so I had my ideas and strategy that I would try and apply pressure from the very first ball.

"I'm really happy because Nigeria has been quite a lucky place for me as this is the first time I've reached the quarterfinals at a WTT Contender event. I hope I can continue my form in this tournament and I hope the crowd keeps on cheering for me as they did in this match and previous matches as well," he said.
