Just days after the Super Falcons were lavished with rewards by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for their historic 10th WAFCON title, a quote allegedly from Okoronkwo speaking about the President has gone wildly viral.

However, the Toronto AFC forward, who was voted the Super Falcons' fans player of the tournament, has been quick to debunk the statement.

The Super Falcons are currently basking in the glory of their triumphant WAFCON campaign, where Okoronkwo was a standout performer, netting two goals and providing six assists in six appearances – even bagging Woman of the Match awards in the semi-final and the final against hosts Morocco.

Their incredible victory and successful journey to achieving 'Mission X' didn't go unnoticed by the highest office in Nigeria.

After winning the WAFCON, President Tinubu has promised the Super Falcons $100,000, a 3-bedroom apartment, and a national honor.

Pulse Sports earlier reported President Tinubu hosted the team, conferring upon each player the prestigious National Honour of the Order of Niger (OON), a generous cash reward of $100,000, and a three-bedroom apartment in the Renewed Hope Estate in Karsana, Abuja.

Technical crew members also received $50,000 for their crucial roles.

It was in the aftermath of this high-profile presidential reception that the alleged quote from Esther Okoronkwo began to circulate.

What’s the gossip?

The statement, initially posted on Instagram by a verified page named "@renewedhope2027" on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, was designed to appear as a glowing endorsement of President Tinubu from the phenomenal Super Falcons star.

This kind of celebrity endorsement, especially following a national triumph, could naturally carry significant weight, particularly given the political nuances of the 2023 elections mentioned in the fabricated text.

The full caption including alleged quote, attributed to Okoronkwo, read:

"Super Falcons star ESTHER OKORONKWO expresses her joy after meeting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at Aso Rock yesterday: ‘I was absolutely surprised by the way the President welcomed, honoured, and celebrated us. As you already know, I'm Igbo, and because of the 2023 elections, there's a way people portrayed the President as a bad person, calling him all sorts of names. I had that mentality too. But after meeting him yesterday, I saw a completely different person. Caring, kind, with a great sense of humour. He is nothing like what they say. If you meet him, you'll definitely fall in love with him. May the President succeed.'"

However, the jubilation quickly turned into a social media headache for Okoronkwo

The forward, clearly taken aback by the viral post, wasted no time in publicly refuting the statement.

She took to her personal Snapchat account, sharing a screenshot of the fabricated quote with a caption: "Abeg, when did I talk this one?" accompanied by an "SMH" (shaking my head) emoji.

This incident underscores the pervasive issue of fabricated content on social media, especially when it involves public figures and sensitive political topics.

The "Renewed Hope" handle, while "verified," appears to be a promotional platform for the current administration, making the dissemination of such a quote look somewhat strategic.
