You have no right to say that! Jose Mourinho criticised for Vinicius Jr comments
The fallout from Real Madrid’s 1-0 Champions League playoff victory over Benfica has shifted from the pitch to the press room, as Jose Mourinho faces intense backlash for his comments regarding Vinicius Jr.
Despite a stunning 50th-minute winner from the Brazilian, the match in Lisbon descended into chaos following his celebration.
After being booked by referee Francois Letexier, Vinicius was allegedly targeted with racial abuse during a confrontation with Benfica’s Gianluca Prestianni. The 25-year-old subsequently refused to continue, leading to a 10-minute halt in play under UEFA protocol.
Mourinho slammed for Vinicius comments
In a highly controversial post-match assessment, Mourinho, who was himself sent off during the game, suggested the forward was responsible for the hostile atmosphere.
When asked if Vinicius had incited the crowd, Mourinho was blunt: "Yes. I believe so."
He expanded on his stance, stating, "When you score a goal like that, you celebrate in a respectful way."
Mourinho further insinuated that the recurring nature of these incidents pointed toward the player rather than the fans, adding, "When it happens in so many stadiums, always with the same player, there is something wrong. A stadium where Vinicius plays something happens, always."
These remarks sparked immediate condemnation from the football world.
🚨 Jamie Carragher: “Mourinho’s comments on Vini’s celebration? It feels a bit rich coming from Jose, we know the way he celebrates himself.

On CBS, Jamie Carragher took aim at the manager’s hypocrisy, noting, “Mourinho’s comments on Vini’s celebration? It feels a bit rich coming from Jose, we know the way he celebrates himself. Vinicius is entitled to celebrate how he wants."
The players involved have also made their voices heard. Vinicius took to Instagram to label racists as "cowards" who hide behind protection, while teammate Kylian Mbappe has publicly called for UEFA to issue a ban.
