Chelsea legend John Obi Mikel has launched a scathing attack on Enzo Fernandez, questioning the Argentine’s leadership and calling for his immediate exit following a series of public statements.
The drama follows Chelsea’s disastrous UEFA Champions League exit, where Liam Rosenior’s side was dismantled 8-2 on aggregate by Paris Saint-Germain.
Fernandez, who wore the captain’s armband in the absence of senior figures, sparked fury by admitting PSG were "tactically superior" and later hinting at a summer departure.
To make matters worse for the Stamford Bridge faithful, the 25-year-old midfielder revealed in a recent interview with LuzuTV that if he could choose any European city to live in, it would be Madri, a comment widely seen as a "come-and-get-me" plea to Real Madrid.
Mikel Obi slams Enzo Fernandez for hinting at Chelsea exit
Speaking on the latest episode of his Obi One Podcast, Mikel did not hold back on the World Cup winner’s conduct.
“That is not a leader,” Mikel fumed. “If you have leaders that players respect and look up to, you wouldn’t come out and make those statements.
"You don’t make that statement after we’ve been disgracefully dumped out of the Champions League, wearing the captain’s armband.”
The Super Eagles legend, who won the Champions League and two Premier League titles during his 11-year stint in West London, suggested that Fernández’s lack of commitment should be met with the exit door.
“No player is bigger than the football club. If he’s had enough, put your hands up and f*** off. And we move on.
"I can understand a little bit of frustration, but you still have to respect the badge, the club, and the fans because they are the ones who pay your wages.”
The timing of the outburst couldn't be worse for Chelsea.
Under manager Liam Rosenior, the Blues have slumped to 6th in the Premier League after three consecutive defeats, leaving the club’s hierarchy reportedly weighing up yet another managerial change as the season enters its final stretch.
