Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez has stated his belief that the Blaugrana’s Camp Nou stadium should be the obvious choice to host the final of the 2030 FIFA World Cup.
Spain set to host 2030 World Cup
Xavi’s comments came after Spain were handed the rights to host the 2030 World Cup in conjunction with neighbouring Morocco and Portugal.
The countries of the Iberian Peninsula beat out the likes of Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and Greece to land the hosting rights alongside the South American contingent of Argentina and Uruguay, who will host their own opening matches.
Since Spain are one of the primary hosts, it is believed that they will get to host the final of the World Cup, with Real Madrid’s Santiago Bernabeu Stadium expected to be chosen as the venue for the showdown between the two best teams in the world.
Xavi wants Barcelona to host World Cup final
The thought of Barcelona’s archrivals Real Madrid getting the rights to host the World Cup did not sit well with Xavi, who spoke about the tournament, saying, “Barcelona will have the stadium with the largest capacity in Spain. Why not hold the final there?”
Indeed, Barcelona’s Camp Nou, once renovated, have the largest capacity of any stadium in the triumvirate of countries set to host the World Cup, with a seating capacity of at least 80,000 people, making Xavi’s point somewhat valid.
However, Madrid being the capital and the Santiago Bernabeu also undergoing a recent facelift will no doubt play strongly in the Real Madrid stadium’s favour.
