'What a player' - AFCON 2013 winner demands more Super Eagles action for Ghana slayer Dessers
Super Eagles legend and AFCON 2013 winner Brown Ideye has heaped praise on Cyriel Dessers following the striker’s impressive performance against Ghana in London.
Dessers once again proved his worth by scoring the opening goal in Nigeria’s 2-1 victory over the Black Stars at the Unity Cup on Wednesday.
The 30-year-old striker, making his return to the national team after a lengthy absence, has now scored two goals in two games against Ghana, underlining his knack for shining in high-stakes encounters.
His goal against Ghana was his third in just four starts for the Super Eagles, signalling a promising resurgence for the Rangers forward.
Impressed by Dessers’ display, Ideye took to X (formerly Twitter) to call for more playing time for the striker with the national team.
“Amazing performance last night from Cyriel Dessers,” Ideye wrote. “Watching him play in his club, he deserves more playing time with the @NGSuperEagles what a player.”
Dessers’ form this season has been exceptional, with the striker netting 30 goals across all competitions for both club and country.
His finishing and ability to perform on big occasions could make him a vital asset for Nigeria under new boss Eric Chelle as he prepares for upcoming key fixtures.
With veterans like Ideye backing him and fans rallying for his inclusion, Dessers looks set to play a key role in the Super Eagles’ ambitions moving forward.
His blend of experience and goal-scoring ability could prove invaluable as Nigeria aims to reclaim continental glory and make a strong impact on the world stage.
