Manchester United have been knocked out of the FA Cup by fourth-tier side Grimsby, which left Amorim speechless.

The Red Devils lost 12-11 on penalties after managing to come back from 2-0 down in the final 15 minutes to force a shootout.

Goalkeeper Andre Onana, making his first appearance of the season, was at fault for both of Grimsby's goals. He was beaten at his near post for the first (22'), and eight minutes later, he failed to deal with a cross, gifting Tyrell Warren a simple close-range finish.

What Amorim said

According to GSP, Amorim refused to single out his keeper, blaming the entire team for the humiliating defeat.

"With all due respect, when you play against a fourth-division team, it's not about the goalkeeper, it's about everything," he explained to Sky Sports.

"It's about the atmosphere, the way we approach the competition. We know that at this moment, people will be looking at everything. Every detail matters massively. And my players spoke for me, very loudly."

Amorim claims that "it doesn't matter if we came back (from 2-0 down) or not. What matters are the signs the team showed throughout the match. The start of the game, with no intensity. All our pressing ideas, we were completely lost."

"It's hard to explain. That's what they conveyed very loudly. I know the better team won, the only team that was on the pitch! The better players lose, because a team can win against any group of players. When you lose but you see something new, it's different. When you see something like today, it's hard to talk about it."

Amorim apologised to the fans, but they want to see him gone and have once again voiced their frustration. Loudly. "Should be sacked before the bus leaves the stadium. This is unforgivable," one supporter wrote on social media.

The Portuguese manager didn't have the strength to watch the penalty shootout, and some labelled him a coward: "I'm sorry, but I don't want a manager who is too scared to watch a penalty shootout against a League 2 team. Sort it out or get the hell out!"
