We must respect his decision — Atalanta send strong message after Lookman exit
His exit comes after a highly productive period at the Gewiss Stadium, where he became a pivotal player for the Bergamo side.
Atalanta boss Palladino ready to move on from Lookman
During his tenure with Atalanta, the Super Eagles attacker amassed an impressive record of 55 goals and 27 assists in 137 appearances across all competitions.
Speaking at a press conference ahead of Atalanta's Coppa Italia clash with Juventus, head coach Palladino explained the circumstances surrounding the transfer.
"It's a dynamic that's part of today's football," he stated, as reported by Tutto Atalanta.
"Lookman received this important request, he expressed his desire to take it up, and he chose Atlético Madrid."
The manager affirmed that the club holds no ill will toward the player and is grateful for his contributions.
"We must respect his decision and thank him for what he's given," Palladino continued. "We look forward with the strong players we have at our disposal and with the desire to continue to amaze."
As Atalanta prepares for their future without him, Lookman could make his debut for Atlético Madrid in their upcoming Copa del Rey match against Real Betis on Thursday. The Nigerian was incredible at the 2025 AFCON, and will be eager to replicate that form in LaLiga for his new team.
