We came to fight - Dorgu credits Michael Carrick for new mentality at Manchester United
Manchester United wing-back Patrick Dorgu has praised newly appointed manager Michael Carrick for transforming the mindset within the squad following his arrival at Old Trafford.
Carrick, who recently replaced Ruben Amorim, made an immediate impact by guiding United to an emphatic 2-0 victory over Manchester City in Saturday’s Manchester derby.
What Dorgu said
Speaking to Manchester United’s official website after the match, Dorgu described Carrick’s early influence as highly positive, pointing to improved morale and intensity across the squad.
“We’ve got a new coach and it’s been really good for us. We have had really good workouts with him and everyone is positive,” Dorgu said.
The defender emphasised that the players responded strongly from the opening moments of the derby, reflecting the renewed energy instilled by the coaching staff.
According to Dorgu, the noticeable difference under Carrick is less about drastic tactical changes and more about mentality and intensity.
“You could also see that from the first minute, how we came out to the fight and everyone was ready,” he explained.
“It hasn’t really changed, but it’s just the intensity and the way he wants us to play. He just wants us to be forward-looking all the time. It’s not about changes, but about the mentality as a group,” Dorgu said.
The derby victory has lifted optimism among players and fans alike, with Carrick’s leadership already earning praise for restoring confidence and unity within the squad.
