Victoria Plzen head coach Martin Hyský has praised Nigerian striker Salim Fago Lawal following his match-winning contribution in a 2-1 victory over Sigma Olomouc on Saturday.
Lawal, who joined Plzeň from Croatian side NK Istra 1961 last month, opened the scoring in the 17th minute to register his first goal for the Czech outfit.
The Nigerian forward reacted quickest to a set-piece situation, giving his side an early advantage in a tightly contested fixture.
What Hyský said
Speaking after the game, Hyský commended the young striker’s instincts and composure in front of goal.
“It’s very positive that he finished off the set piece and was in the right place. He reacted well,” the coach told the club’s official website.
Hyský also highlighted Lawal’s overall influence, particularly in what he described as difficult playing conditions.
“It was a match of great intensity and in conditions that are not exactly football-like. He helped a lot with his runs behind the defence and contributed significantly in pressing situations,” he said.
He continued, “He behaved excellently even with his back to the goal. He held up difficult balls and again delivered a very good performance.”
The Plzeň manager expressed confidence that Lawal’s versatility will make the team more dynamic in the future.
“We are delighted to have him because he is exactly the type of forward who can make us more dangerous. He is comfortable as a number nine but can also operate in other attacking roles. I’m certain he will continue to improve,” he added.
