No Val Gift, No Contract — Super Eagles no. 1 Stanley Nwabali unfazed after Chippa United exit
Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali is embracing uncertainty with characteristic swagger. Fresh off his abrupt departure from South African club Chippa United, the 29-year-old hero of Nigeria's 2023 AFCON run, posted a cheeky Valentine's Day Snapchat that has fans buzzing about his personal life while he eyes his next career move.
What's the gossip?
On February 14, Nwabali shared a mirror selfie on Snapchat from what appeared to be his home, rocking a sharp all-black Dior ensemble: oversized short-sleeve shirt, matching trousers, layered necklaces, and a red Yankees cap tilted just right.
The Enugu-born shot-stopper captioned it: "No Val gift regardless we move."
Nigerians have long fixated on Nwabali's personal life, following his heroics in Ivory Coast at AFCON 2023. Yet, like many Super Eagles stars, he guards his privacy fiercely.
The caption hints at singledom, but it's speculative at best; no confirmation of his relationship status.
What next for Nwabali after Chippa United?
Nwabali left Chippa United by mutual consent earlier this month after four years and 76 appearances, where he became one of the PSL's most reliable shot-stopper. Despite no renewal offers, he submitted a transfer request, leaving as a free agent.
Despite social media rumours of massive offers from clubs like Manchester United or Saudi Arabian teams (which are largely unverified or exaggerated), Nwabali has been linked to Raja Casablanca (Morocco) and Simba SC (Tanzania).
Nwabali has stated he is "not desperate" and is looking for a move that helps him "win trophies and play on a big stage".
After a silver medal in 2023, he helped lead Nigeria to a third-place (bronze) finish at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, as the Super Eagles no.1 choice in goal.
