Ibrahim Musa Gusau has officially stepped down as president of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), bringing his four-year tenure to an unexpected end.

The former federation boss was later seen leaving the NFF offices for the final time, marking the closing moments of a turbulent spell in charge of Nigerian football.

Gusau announced his resignation during a media briefing in Abuja on Thursday, revealing that he had also advised members of his Executive Committee to follow suit.

His departure comes just four weeks before the scheduled end of his four-year tenure, which began in October 2022 following his succession of Amaju Pinnick.

The decision follows growing pressure over the fortunes of Nigeria's national teams and concerns surrounding the administration of the federation.

The Super Eagles' failure to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup represented one of the biggest setbacks of his tenure.

The Super Falcons also suffered a historic blow after failing to qualify for the 2027 FIFA Women's World Cup, ending Nigeria's perfect qualification streak dating back to the tournament's inaugural edition in 1991.

Gusau's final days in office were also overshadowed by investigations involving Nigeria's Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).

After confirming his resignation, the former NFF president was spotted leaving the federation's Abuja offices for the last time.

His departure attracted significant attention, with Gusau receiving a notable reception as he walked away from the building following his resignation announcement.
