Senegal’s youngster Amara Diouf has paid glowing tribute to Nigeria and SSC Napoli star Victor Osimhen after a historic outing at the 2023 U-17 AFCON.
Diouf eulogised the Super Eagles striker after he smashed his scoring record in the competition to inspire Senegal to the semifinal in Algeria.
The Senegalese has now surpassed Osimhen’s record of four goals in the U-17 AFCON set in the 2015 edition in Niger Republic after his brace against South Africa.
Happy Diouf to follow Osimhen’s path
Diouf was the hero and star as Senegal picked the ticket to represent Africa at the FIFA U-17 World Cup slated for later this year in Peru.
The Lions thrashed their counterparts from South Africa the Amajimbos 5-0 in one of the quarterfinal matches with the Greenfoot star scoring two of the goals.
Both goals took his tally to five goals in the competition while he was also awarded the man of the match, his third in the competition in four matches.
After the match, the youngster was delighted to have broken Osimhen’s record and would love to follow in the footsteps of the Nigeria Super Eagles striker who has become a hero in Naples after an inspirational season with Napoli.
“It is always the right path if you follow the examples set by the best players in the competition,” Diouf told CAF Online.
“This is a massive thing for me and I am really delighted to break the record. It means a lot to me and hopefully, I can also follow his path of success.”
Osimhen backed for World best
In a related development, AC Milan legend George Tawlon Manneh Oppong Ousman Weah has urged Super Eagles star Victor Osimhen to go for the Ballon d’Or and FIFA Best Player after making history with Napoli this season.
The Nigeria Super Eagles forward was the main man in Napoli’s Serie A success, scoring 23 goals and setting up another five others in 28 league games as the Partnopei ended a 33-year wait for the title.
Osimhen’s performance also means he is now the all-time African top scorer in Serie A history, surpassing former Milan star and Liberia’s President Weah.
With Osimhen now the top scoring African player in Italian history, Weah has backed the Nigerian to go all the way to lift the Ballon d’Or and FIFA best player.
“You have won one Scudetto. Great,” Weah posted as reported by Pulse Sports Nigeria.
“When I won my first Scudetto with Milan, I said to myself, why one, why not two? I went on to win another Scudetto with Milan. I went on to win the Ballon d’Or.”
“So why not two or more for you Victor? The sky is your limit. With your dedication, commitment, humility, and hard work, you can conquer the World. Africa needs another World Best. Africa needs another European Best. You Victor, can deliver that for us.”
