The Spaniard, who missed much of the 2024-25 Premier League season, was sorely missed as Pep Guardiola’s side struggled without his commanding presence in central midfield.
Rodri made his comeback toward the end of the campaign and is now focused on regaining full fitness to rediscover the world-class form that earned him the 2024 Ballon d’Or.
The 28-year-old has reportedly attracted interest from Real Madrid president Florentino Perez.
According to Cadena SER, Los Blancos are actively seeking a new holding midfielder in the transfer market but are reluctant to spend €100 million (£87 million). However, the report notes that Perez would make an exception for Rodri, whom he considers a prime target should Manchester City make him available.
Fortunately for City fans, the club “are not in the mood to sell their star player,” per Cadena SER. With Rodri’s pivotal role in Guardiola’s system and his status as the reigning Ballon d’Or holder, it’s no surprise that Manchester City have no interest in doing business.
Rodri's contract expires in 2027, which could offer some encouragement to the Spanish giants to make a push in the summer of 2026.
