Transfer news: Chelsea make surprising move to sign Luiz following injury concerns

The 27-year-old Brazilian midfielder has struggled with injuries and has had a limited impact since his temporary switch from the Italian giants. 

Despite this, Chelsea are considering taking over the loan agreement, with sources suggesting a deal could materialize quickly.

Luiz, a former Aston Villa standout, offers valuable Premier League and Champions League experience, along with tactical versatility.

The Blues are keen to strengthen their midfield options to provide cover for injuries and manage the fitness of several key players.

Concerns are growing over the physical condition of Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez, who are both managing minor injuries. Meanwhile, Cole Palmer has found it difficult to maintain a consistent run of matches.

Although captain Reece James has occasionally filled in as a defensive midfielder, the club remains cautious about his playing time. 

Chelsea had initially hoped Andrey Santos would provide a solution after being recalled from a successful loan spell but has struggled to adapt to the demands of the Premier League and Champions League.

The potential arrival of Luiz, who is represented by the same agency as Santos, would offer a natural holding midfielder to play alongside Caicedo or James.
