They will replace me — Haaland names condition of his Man City employment
Manchester City striker Erling Haaland has said that he is judged differently from other forwards, as the standards set for of him are high.
The 25-year-old holds the record for the most goals scored in a single Premier League campaign (36 goals). Last season, he scored 22 league goals, and it was seen as an underperformance.
Haaland on standards set for him
In a recent conversation with legendary striker Gary Lineker, who teased him that his target was 40 goals, Haaland admitted thatthe standards set for him were different.
“What would be a good season for me? I think if I got 20 goals you'd say 'it’s an OK season', ”he said, per Goal. If City win the league and I got 25 goals, I think it would be 'a good season', 30 goals it would be 'a really good season', 35 goals 'an amazing season', 36 goals 'a really, really good season'.”
Haaland on maintaining his level
Haaland is on course for another 30-goal league season, having scored 15 so far. He said that he cannot let his standards drop, or else Manchester City will replace him.
"If not, they have to replace me. Because if I’m not delivering the goals and the things they need, they have to replace me. So there is a lot of pressure on me to deliver."
