'They made me train away' - Gabriel Jesus reveals Arsenal snub before Barcelona move

Gabriel Jesus has opened up about the difficult final days of his Arsenal career, claiming he was unexpectedly forced to train away from the first team before completing his summer move to Barcelona.

The Brazilian striker, who sealed a reported £8.6 million transfer to the Spanish champions on deadline day, said the decision caught him by surprise after spending the entire pre-season preparing with the squad.

Jesus had featured in all four of Arsenal's official pre-season matches, but he was left out of the club's opening Premier League squads, sparking speculation that his exit was imminent.

Speaking to SportyTV, the 29-year-old revealed he had continued training professionally despite believing his opportunities at Arsenal were becoming limited.

“The truth is I was training normally and completed the entire pre-season with Arsenal. I already knew that I probably wouldn't play there or get many opportunities, but no one told me anything,” Jesus said.

The striker said the situation changed abruptly when he was instructed to work separately from his teammates.

He added, “I'm a professional, and I was training with the group. Then, out of nowhere, they made me train away from the team.”

Jesus credited Barcelona sporting director Deco, club president Joan Laporta, and his representatives for quickly finalising the transfer.

According to the Brazilian, negotiations accelerated rapidly during the final week of the transfer window.

“In one day, it was certain I would have the opportunity to come to Barcelona. I said yes straight away, no matter what, and I am so happy to be here,” he added.

Jesus arrived at Arsenal from Manchester City in 2022 and recorded 32 goals and 22 assists in 123 appearances.
