‘The whole thing is about this guy’ - Rooney slams viral haircut stunt for distracting from Man Utd

The fan, Frank Ilett, known online as "The United Strand," has gained global attention by vowing not to cut his hair until the Red Devils secure five consecutive victories. 

Carrick's side entered the match on a four-game winning streak, raising expectations that Ilett could finally visit the barber.

However, Ilett's hopes for a haircut were dashed on Tuesday night when West Ham held Manchester United to a 1-1 draw. 

Rooney believes the focus should be squarely on Michael Carrick's squad, not on a social media stunt.

Speaking on the No Tippy Tappy Football podcast before the West Ham clash, Rooney did not hold back his annoyance. "He is doing my head in," the former captain said. 

"We are talking about Michael Carrick and Man United trying to win their fifth game in a row and the whole thing is about this guy getting his haircut. I bet he is devastated if Man United win because he will be irrelevant."

Ilett's wait for a potential five-game winning streak will now extend for several weeks. Manchester United are not in action again until they face Everton on February 23rd.

Following that match, their Premier League schedule includes fixtures against Crystal Palace, Newcastle, Aston Villa, and Bournemouth.
