Former Manchester United and England striker Michael Owen believed the club would be in the title race if the Premier League season were to restart today.

Since taking the helm from Ruben Amorim, Carrick has guided United to four consecutive victories, a feat the club hasn't achieved in two years.

This impressive run includes wins over rivals Manchester City and Arsenal.

The Red Devils will look to extend their winning streak to five when they face West Ham United on Tuesday night.

What Owen said

Speaking to GOAL in his role as a UK ambassador for casino.org, Owen claimed that United's current form puts them in the conversation for top honours.

"If the league started tomorrow, you couldn’t rule them out of having a real fighting chance of challenging for the league. The way they are playing, the way Liverpool are playing, the way City are playing... in general, their seasons have been pretty poor, and it’s going to be a low points total winning the league this season," Owen said.

Owen suggested that, based on their current trajectory, United are a force to be reckoned with.

"In its current guise, the current team and the way they are playing at the moment, they could end up being second or third in the league at the end of the season," he added.

Another victory against West Ham would not only boost United's Champions League qualification hopes but also strengthen Carrick's case for the permanent manager position.
