‘The kid is being ruined’ - Man United legend accuses Amorim for destroying Mainoo's talent
Scholes's frustration boiled over following United's 1-1 draw with West Ham on Thursday, where the 20-year-old midfielder was once again an unused substitute.
Mainoo has struggled to get into the Man United starting lineup this season, which has led to limited playing time.
The midfielder was on the verge of leaving the Red Devils during the summer transfer window, but the club blocked the move.
Scholes slams Amorim
The former England international took to social media to voice his anger, suggesting it might be "best for him" to leave the club.
"Bulls*," Scholes wrote on Instagram, as reported by Daily Mail, responding to recent comments from Amorim.
"The kid is being ruined, not being played in a team that can't control a game of football. Hate seeing homegrown players leave but it's probably best for him now, enough is enough."
The outburst came after Amorim had publicly stated he views Mainoo as a potential starter, despite having given him only one start all season—in a shock cup loss to Grimsby Town.
"I see him as a starter like the other players," Amorim said last week. "I just have to make a choice and then in the end, it's not been Kobbie. I just want to win games. I don't care who is playing."
Mainoo, who enjoyed a breakout period two seasons ago, has been limited to just 171 minutes of Premier League action this term.
His frustration was evident when he was brought on as a stoppage-time substitute in the recent 2-1 win over Crystal Palace.
