‘That’s what keeps happening’ - Mikel Obi claims Casemiro is not fit to play in the Premier League
In 2022, Manchester United paid €70.65 million to sign Casemiro from Real Madrid after an outstanding career with the Spanish giants.
The Brazilian star had an outstanding debut campaign in which he recorded seven goals and six assists in 51 games for the Red Devils.
However, after his incredible first season, he has struggled to replicate his form and fallen down the pecking order in the team.
Mikel Obi speaks on Casemiro’s performance
Mikel has been harshly critical of Casemiro and feels that the former Real Madrid player should be let go because he is past his best.
Speaking on Obi One podcast, he said, “In the Premier League, you will get found out. The Premier League is the most difficult league, fast-paced and dynamic. It will throw everything at you.
“So if you’re not young enough, you’re not quick enough, you’re not mobile enough, you’re not energetic enough to cope with the Premier League, you’re going to get found out. And that’s what keeps happening to Casemiro.
“If he comes in and have one good game, it doesn’t mean that he’s changed, he’s still the same player.
“I love the guy, he’s played for Real Madrid, he’s won everything in his career. But his legs are gone, Manchester United need to get another midfielder.”
In Monday's 2-0 loss to Newcastle United, the 32-year-old midfielder started in the middle of the pitch but was exhausted in the first half.
Since Manuel Ugarte's arrival, Casemiro has had a difficult time getting playing time and has struggled since the previous season.
