‘That is mental, he scored a pen’ - Rogers furious after Palmer wins Player of the Match award

The pair were instrumental in Chelsea's thrilling 6-3 comeback win on Wednesday night, which secured their place in the fourth round of the competition. 

Palmer netted two goals, while Rogers, who joined Aston Villa in a record-breaking £117 million summer transfer, provided an incredible four assists.

Despite Rogers' remarkable contribution, the award was given to Palmer, much to his teammate's disbelief. 

In a moment captured live on Sky Sports, Rogers was heard jokingly protesting the decision.

"Mate, I got four assists," a baffled Rogers said before their joint interview. "Nah, nah, nah. I can’t believe that. That is mental… he scored a pen!"

Palmer quickly defended his win, retorting, "I started the comeback." He then added, "I’ll shout you out and say you should’ve had it, don’t worry about that."

Rogers humorously fired back, "Don’t mention me – I’m just a bystander. That is criminal."

Both players came on as substitutes to turn the tide for Chelsea, who were trailing 2-0. Palmer's quick-fire goals in the 53rd and 55th minutes brought his team back into the game.

The win saw the Blues bounce back from their 2-1 defeat against arch-rivals Arsenal at the weekend in the London derby.

Chelsea will now turn their attention to their next fixture, a home game against Hull City on Saturday afternoon.
