Super Eagles hopeful Nathan Tella delights Bayer Leverkusen boss Xabi Alonso with first club goal
Bayer Leverkusen head coach Xabi Alonso has praised first-time scorer Nathan Tella after the winger scored in the German side’s UEFA Europa League victory over Molde.
Tella scores first Bayer Leverkusen goal
Tella scored what proved to be the winner for Bayer Leverkusen, scoring his first goal for his new side since joining from Southampton in the summer.
The former Arsenal youth prospect has settled into life in Germany with Xabi Alonso’s men, and the Spanish gaffer was more than pleased with the winger getting his first goal for the club.
Tella scored Bayer Leverkusen’s second goal of the night against Molde with a brilliant finish from a superb counterattack, which delighted Alonso during his press conference.
Alonso gushes over Tella goal
Speaking after Bayer Leverkusen’s win in Europe, Alonso said, “The first half was good, our three strikers did what I wanted.
“The first goal for Nathan Tella, that was great. We prepared well. There was a moment when we played with the result, not with the game anymore. When you want to defend the result, it can happen like that.”
Tella has recently spoken about his desire to represent Nigeria at the international level and will no doubt fit in with the current squad of Super Eagles forwards if he continues finding the back of the net for Bayer Leverkusen.
