Stanley Nwabali provides fresh update on his future ahead of South Africa, Benin clashes
Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali has provided a fresh update on his future following the end of the South African Premier Division.
Nwabali plays for Chippa United, who finished 12th of 16 in the SAPD. However, thanks to his performance at AFCON 2023, he has attracted interest from bigger clubs in South Africa and beyond.
What Nwabali said
The AFCON served as great exposure for the former Enyimba goalkeeper, who came close to winning the goalkeeper of the tournament.
His qualities shone through, helping the Super Eagles keep four clean sheets in seven games, a level he maintains for his club, keeping 11 clean sheets in 26 games for Chippa United this season.
This has put him on the radar of Kaizer Chiefs, a top club in South Africa, and even Saudi Pro League side Al-Ettifaq.
Nwabali confirmed, according to Farpost, that he is in conversation with clubs, and he expressed his desire to make a step up in his career.
“Well, everyone would love to leave because when you are in some position, you need to grow,” Nwabali said.
“Like everyone in my position would like to grow more. I’m talking about clubs higher than this [bigger than Chippa United] because I have been giving my all to my club this season. I just wish to have another challenge at some other place.”
Nwabali was named in Finidi George's squad to play in the World Cup Qualifier matches against South Africa and Benin Republic on June 3rd and 7th, respectively; he will be expected to start in goal for both games.
