Sinner joins Federer, Djokovic in record books after DESTROYING Mussetti to reach semifinal
World No 1 Jannik Sinner crushed fellow Italian Lorenzo Musetti in straight sets on Wednesday night at the US Open.
The defending champion swept through 6-1, 6-4, 6-2 in just two hours to storm into the semi finals.
Sinner saved all seven break points and converted five of six chances on Musetti’s serve.
The match was billed as historic for being the first all Italian men’s Grand Slam quarter final.

However, it ended as a one-sided masterclass.
Sinner joins legends in the history books
Sinner has now reached the semi finals at all four Grand Slams this season.
Only three men had done this before him in the Open Era: Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic, and Ivan Lendl.
According to OptaAce, Sinner is the youngest No 1 ever to achieve the feat.
4 - Since 1973, Jannik Sinner is just the fourth ATP #1 to reach all four Men’s Singles SFs in a season at GS events after Ivan Lendl, Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic – Sinner is the youngest of the four to achieve the feat. Whoa.#USOpen | @usopen @atptour @ATPMediaInfo pic.twitter.com/HWcN9qEvaI

That puts him in the most elite company of modern tennis.
Ruthless form at Flushing Meadows
Since the start of the 2025 U.S Open, Sinner has dropped only one set in the tournament.
He lost it to Denis Shapovalov in the third round.
Since then the 24-year-old has torn through opponents, almost seamlessly.
Alexander Bublik won only three games in their meeting and later joked that Sinner was “like AI.”
Musetti fared little better. His one handed backhand was repeatedly picked apart.

This sure looks familiar from Lorenzo Musetti. pic.twitter.com/rw5LKaUQMY
But Sinner was simply too strong in every area.
What next for Sinner?
On Friday night Sinner will face Canadian Felix Auger Aliassime for a place in the final.
The 25th seed edged out Alex de Minaur in a gruelling four set battle. Auger Aliassime actually leads Sinner 2-1 in past meetings.
But both of those wins came in 2022.
Last month in Cincinnati, Sinner demolished him 6-0, 6-2.
Sinner has now matched Djokovic and Lendl for the third longest winning streak on hard courts at the majors with 26 consecutive victories.
He is the reigning US Open champion and has won the last three hard court Grand Slams.
Meanwhile, Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz will meet in the other semi final.
The winners will clash on Sunday in what could be another defining chapter in tennis.
