Serie A side AS Roma are reportedly contemplating a move for Liverpool's Mo Salah, as they view his fallout with the Reds hierarchy as a unique opportunity for an emotional reunion.
The details
Roma are among the clubs linked with a potential winter move for Salah after the Egypt captain’s explosive comments that his relationship with Liverpool has “broken down” and that the club had “thrown him under the bus” following repeated benchings under manager Arne Slot.
Salah, 33, who signed a contract extension in April 2025 keeping him at Anfield until June 2027, was benched for three consecutive matches and publicly questioned his treatment after Liverpool’s 3–3 draw with Leeds, fuelling speculation over a mid-season exit.
As Pulse Sports reported, Saudi Pro League sides are interested in Salah as well, and they are prepared to take on Salah's seismic wages. However, Roma are also keen, according to La Repubblica.
A possible emotional reunion
Roma’s links carry particular weight because Salah previously starred in Serie A with Ii Giallorossi from 2016 to 2017, during which he scored 19 goals and 12 assists in 41 appearances and cemented his reputation before his transfer to Liverpool in June 2017 for a fee reported at around €42 million.
Roma’s interest is seen as a “dream scenario” rather than a fully formed negotiation, as Salah's wages are a hurdle. Salah’s gross earnings at Liverpool are around €24 million per season, meaning even a short-term loan would cost Roma near €12 million for six months if he does not take a pay cut.
Meanwhile, Liverpool may be amenable to a loan or permanent sale if the situation continues to sour.
