Rui Vitoria and Egypt’s relationship comes to an end

Egypt decided to part ways with Rui Vitoria, their national team coach, in a decision that was anticipated by quite a number of football watchers.

The Portuguese manager's tenure, which began in 2018, came to an end after Egypt’s underwhelming campaign at the Africa Cup of Nations.

Despite some success during his time in charge, including leading Egypt to the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations final, Vitoria's recent struggles in World Cup qualification, which preceded the AFCON, also played a part in his dismissal.

However, the forward expressed his emotions at the sacking of the coach, saying: ‘Thanks for everything, coach. I wish you the best in the future’.

Egypt resume World Cup qualification against Burkina Faso in June, but they are yet to announce a new coach that will lead them into this game.
