REPORT: Manchester United's Raphael Varane looking to leave Red Devils as soon as next month
Manchester United defender Raphael Varane is reportedly set for an exit from Old Trafford as early as the January transfer window after interest from Bayern Munich.
Varane linked with Manchester United exit
Varane joined Manchester United in the summer of 2021 from record European champions Real Madrid in a €40 million deal after 10 years in the Spanish capital.
The French defender became an integral part of the Manchester United team following his arrival at Old Trafford, but recent recurrent injuries have threatened Varane’s place in the team under manager Erik Ten Hag.
Varane has started only seven matches for Manchester United in the 2023/24 season, leading to speculation about his future at the club.
Varane willing to join Bayern Munich this winter
Recent reports have linked the centre-back to a move to Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich since he has evidently fallen down the pecking order at Old Trafford behind summer signing Jonny Evans and ex-captain Harry Maguire.
Despite returning to fitness, Varane has not started any of Manchester United’s last four Premier League matches, with his three appearances totalling only 18 minutes of action, with Ten Hag insisting that the decision to leave the Frenchman on the bench was purely tactical.
Following recent incidents, German journalist Florian Plettenberg, who broke the news of Bayern Munich’s interest in Varane has also suggested that the French defender will be willing to make a move to Bavaria as early as January to avoid spending more time on the bench.
