Report: Juventus name Barcelona captain as top transfer target
Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo is reportedly the top transfer target for Serie A giants Juventus this winter transfer window.
The 25-year-old has been a mainstay in Barcelona's defence for multiple seasons; however, his contract is set to expire in 2026. With talks of a renewal having stalled, reports of a possible exit have intensified.
The details
The Uruguayan centre-half only recently returned to action for Barcelona, as he had been injured since last summer’s Copa America.
After a dominant display against Barbastros in the Copa del Rey, Araujo was asked about his contract situation, and he stated that he had to update.
Today, transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano reported that Juventus are attentive to Araujo’s situation and will attempt to tempt Barcelona's resolve this January, as they have the Uruguayan at the top of their wish list.
It remains to be seen whether the Blaugrana would be willing to part with the defender, who is one of their captains and was recently lauded as a true leader by Hansi Flick. However, a sizable transfer offer from the Old Lady could convince the Barcelona hierarchy, who are in dire need of a cash injection.
