Echoes of the 2009 Stamford Bridge classic

Before tonight's record-breaking shootout in Paris, the last time two opposing teams scored four goals apiece in a European knockout clash was 17 years ago during the legendary 2008/09 Champions League quarter-final second leg between Chelsea and Liverpool.

Played on April 14, 2009, at Stamford Bridge, the Premier League rivals battled to a breathtaking 4-4 draw.

Liverpool raced to a 2-0 first-half lead through Fábio Aurélio and Xabi Alonso before Chelsea roared back with strikes from Didier Drogba, Alex, and a crucial brace from Frank Lampard, with goals from Lucas Leiva and Kuyt in the mix. Chelsea eventually won the tie thanks to a 7-5 penalty win.
