Premier League: Sunday Oliseh claims 'worst squad in years' have only 10% chance to win title

Former Super Eagles captain Sunday Oliseh has provided an honest assessment of the current Premier League title race.

Sunday Oliseh believes Arsenal are heavy favourites to win the Premier League title, and expressed surprise that the gap between the Gunners and the chasing pack is only six points.

Despite Arsenal sitting six points clear at the top of the table with 53 points, Oliseh believes the Gunners’ own psychological hurdles are the only thing keeping the race alive. He noted that while Mikel Arteta’s men are tactically superior, they have yet to display the "100 percent belief" required to kill off the competition entirely.

Mikel Arteta's men have been runners-up in the English top-flight over the past three seasons, but they are currently the firm front-runners to win their first title since 2004, especially with Liverpool 14 points behind, and Manchester City enduring an inconsistent campaign.

Sunday Oliseh on Arsenal, Man City's title chances

“The only team that can stop Arsenal from winning the league this year is Arsenal, not any of the other teams,” the 51-year-old said on the Sunday Oliseh Global Insight podcast.

“This is because the current Manchester City squad is one of the worst I've seen in years, and the surprising part is that they're in second place.

This is a tough time for Pep Guardiola after back-to-back defeats.

Oliseh argued that in any other era, the league would already be over, but the unpredictability of the current campaign means the leaders cannot afford a single slip-up as they head into the final stretch.

“This league should have been over. If it weren't the English Premier League, Arsenal would have carted away the title.

“Why Arsenal aren't ten points ahead is because their self-belief isn't totally there right now.

“They are so well-structured, they have the right players and are tactically on point, but what can stop them is themselves.

Arsenal return to Premier League action this weekend with a home clash against Sunderland, while City travel to Anfield to face a resurgent Liverpool. Anything other than a win for Guardiola's men could see the Gunners extend their lead at the top, before both sides meet in April.

The two sides will also clash in the final of the Carabao Cup on March 22.
